Rite of Confirmation

The Rite of Confirmation

We, at Holy Angels, are delighted to walk with you and guide you on your spiritual journey. This important decision is your response to the God’s invitation to receive His Holy Spirit of love and be empowered to proclaim the good news of His love.

What is the Sacrament of Confirmation?

The Sacrament of Confirmation is one of the Sacraments of Initiation (along with Baptism and the Most Holy Eucharist). Confirmation allows the candidates to own their faith, to re-affirm their baptismal promises and to live the adventurous Spiritual life as a missionary disciples of Jesus Christ. This powerful Sacrament is filled with graces and blessings as each person is sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These gifts are activated and help each person continue the mission of Christ in building the Kingdom of God in the world through His Holy church.

Who is ADULT CONFIRMATION for?

This journey is for adults who may are:

  • 18 years of age and older (not in High School).
  • Baptized in the Catholic Church and have received their First Holy Communion
  • Attending weekly Sunday Mass (or will begin to attend)
  • Participating in the active life of the church
  • Living in the Los Angeles area and desiring to make the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels their home parish

When is the Sacrament of Confirmation Scheduled to take place?

The date varies each year. It is typically scheduled during the Easter Season in the Spring.  This year, the Rite of Confirmation will be celebrated by our Archbishop JOSE GOMEZ on April 12, 2026.

CHOOSING A SAINT NAME:  (A Confirmation name that represents a model of Christian life and spiritual inspiration).  At Confirmation, candidates may choose the name of a saint to serve as a spiritual companion and role model in their life of faith. The saint you choose should be someone whose life reflects Christian virtue, holiness, and dedication to God.  When choosing a saint name, consider the following guidelines:

  • The name should be that of a canonized saint recognized by the Catholic Church.
  • The saint should be someone whose life, values, or story inspires you in your own journey of faith.
  • Take time to learn about the saint’s life, including how they followed Jesus and served others.
  • You may choose a saint whose virtues you hope to imitate (for example: courage, charity, humility, perseverance, faith).
  • Many candidates select a saint who relates to their personal interests, struggles, cultural heritage, or future goals.
The saint you choose becomes a spiritual intercessor and example, reminding you that you are called to live a life of faith, service, and holiness.  Candidates should be prepared to share briefly why they chose their saint and what they admire about that saint’s life.
